Dissertations

They’re the crowning achievement for grad students—massive, dense, and highly technical documents that can make or break a budding academic.

I happen to love dissertations, and I can help every step of the way.

You need this when you have a point to make, but you’re not sure how to make it. I step in during the early drafting phases to help you structure and refine your arguments, find gaps in reasoning, and bolster your arguments.

If you’re done writing, I can help you refine your style, make sure you’ve used the right words, tidy up your writing for flow and clarity, and make sure you have commas in all the right places.

At some point, the words will all start to blur together on the page. You’ve agonized over them long enough. Let me clean it up for you.

Microsoft Word can bring even the most brilliant of academics to tears when inserting tables and figures, generating a table of contents, or making sure all the headings are identical. I can take that off your plate.

Developmental Editing

Abdul created a framework for Saudi Arabian jurisprudence that would allow for robust human rights reform. Major endeavors like this need careful argumentation and thorough reasoning. I came on board while he was still writing, and I helped him structure his disseration, identify the main premises, and bolster his arguments with evidence.

Once we had that laid out, I edited his writing, formatting the dissertation for publication, and coached him on ESL concerns.

Formatting

Unlike other dissertations in my portfolio, Sarah used several of her published papers bracketed by introduction and conclusion chapters. These papers all had different formatting from their respective publishers, which all needed to be unified for the dissertation.

My role was to assemble it all into a cohesive and complete document with unified formatting and integrated tables and figures. I also created the front matter that included the title page, abstract, table of contents, list of figures, list of tables, list of abbreviations.

Copyediting

Capella University has a strict rubric that guides what should and should not be included in the dissertation. My goal was to help Clarissa make their dissertation as readable as possible given the strict requirements—the goal is professional advancement as a counselor, not continued publishing or an academia.

I copyediting, formatted, and proofread the dissertation.
